PhD Scholarship in Chemical Engineering, Curtin University – Australia
PhD Scholarship in Chemical Engineering
Curtin University
Closing date:
21-Jun-10
A PhD scholarship is available on the project entitled Enhancement Of Anaerobic Digester Performance And Dewatering System. This project is funded by Water Corporation, Perth, WA
Stipend: $22500 per annum
Closing Date: 21st June 2010
Applications are invited for the above scholarship for PhD studentship. It is available immediately.
Anaerobic digestion is a sludge treatment used in a number of municipal wastewater treatment plants to stabilize organic matter. Mass reduction, methane production and improved dewatering properties of the treated sludge are the main features of this process. Anaerobic digestion is often limited by very long retention time combined with low overall efficiencies (40-50%)… A key factor in enhancing anaerobic digestion is enhancement of hydrolysis as it is the rate limiting step.
Therefore, the overall aim of this project is to enhancement of the anaerobic digester performance and to reduce the associated cost. High performance means greater biogas production, improved biosolids quality, increased Digester capacity, reduced solid volume etc. This work will be combination of both experimental and modelling work.
Applicant should have a Chemical Engineering Degree, ideally with a Master Degree with some laboratory experience. The scholarship is open to both Australian and international students, preferably local students. The postgraduate student will be enrolled for a PhD degree at Curtin University will be supervised jointly with Prof H. M. Ang and Dr Tushar K Sen. The stipend ($ 22500) is available for up to 3 years subject to satisfactory performance.
